The distinguishing characteristic of this body of work is that it is printed on German Hahnenmule Water Color Paper.  It has a coarse, yet absorbent texture which gives each photograph a 3 Dimensional, near painting-like qualit<br>Photographs are then protected from Ultra Violet Light with a fine lacquer spray.  As a result, the photograph may be displayed WITHOUT GLASS, further enhancing its quality as a painting.

The photograph is guaranteed not to fade. <br>Further, for 3 years, WARD Gallery/Ciao Bella! clients' photographs are replaceable for just 1/2 price should they be damaged. They just cannot be displayed outdoors, but this is a remarkable guarantee, given that photographs are almost always displayed under glass, with some resulting distortion.

John Wawrzonek was educated at M.I.T in Electrical Engineering and for years headed Strategic Planning for Bose Corporation in Massachusetts.  He began photographing landscapes in 1974 with a 4” x 5” view camera, and while largely self taught, was educated in various printing methods by New England teachers.

His work has universal appeal. His “eye” developed as was he was drawn to specific places, often for years at a time, and usually by the intensely intriguing subjects concentrated in these places. He spent nearly10 years becoming intimate with Acadia National Park, Walden Pond, the blueberry barrens of Maine, cranberry bogs of Cape Cod and the woods of the Berkshires. This collection contains subject matter similar to life experiences in Northern Michigan.

Peer Reviews in the press include:

“The artist’s sense of form, his selection of colors is painterly and vigorous” Memphis Commercial Appeal

“A breathtaking collection of landscapes that might change forever the way you think about landscape photography” Arrive, the Arts Magazine of New Orleans

John Wawrzonek is known equally well for his ability to print color photography as he is for his camera’s eye. Only he prints his work. He was the master printer for Elliot Porter’s final landscape suite. Earlier in his career, he was one of few photographers to print using the Dye Transfer process. This is a laborious technique but was the only method which gave John the range of brilliant colors and sharpness of image he sought.

When Kodak discontinued dye transfer materials in 1993, he embarked on a 15 year journey to discover a technique to suitably replace the old process.  In 2009 he began using water color paper. In conjunction with a 10 pigment printer and the latest in photo technology, he achieved his ultimate printing goal.

When adjusting, developing, and printing an image, John attempts to replicate what only the eye can see in sharpness of detail and brilliance of color, but that cannot be captured by any of today's film.  His overarching goal is to produce an image which best pleases the eye.  As a result, his work is often thought of as a painting. An owner may visit their piece repeatedly and will always discover a new detail, especially without the interference of glass.

John has published 3 books, has created numerous posters for The Nature Company, has participated in group shows at The Photographers’ Gallery, London, Cleveland Art Institute, and Center for Photography, St. Louis; and had one person shows across the country.  His work is held by Elton John, Tony Bennett and Don Henley as well as hundreds of corporations and hospitals.

The work on display at WARD Gallery consists of 9 framed photographs (without glass), each 24 in. by 30 in. done in various seasons of the year at differing locations.  Every one of the photographer's Landscape images was shot with a traditional wide format camera and printed from a transparency, stored digitally.  A new suite of Floral images shot using a digital camera will be published soon.

Prices of works on watercolor paper range from $325 for 16” x 20” to $1,800 for 44” x 55”.  Prints can be made up to 10 feet high or wide with no loss in resolution.  Selections may be made in the Gallery, framed in Michigan and shipped.  Or, other of John’s work may be previewed at http://www.lightsongfineart.com where identical retail prices are used.  Simply call Ciao Bella! customer service to order.  Prints mailed without a frame will be accompanied by framing instructions.  Each print ordered by a WARD Gallery client on our website or Light Song Fine Art's website will also be accompanied by the Warranties.
